Self portrait by Leslie Lowe

Leslie Lowe was an essential part of the Downtown scene particularly ABC No Rio as painter and filmmaker, collaborating with Jack Waters to establish the roving film screening project Naked Eye Cinema.  Leslie’s devotion to the mystical and occult arts included a deep fascination with Egyptology and Santeria - from tarot readings to devotional candles to the incorporation of Santeria figures in her paintings.  Couple that with a love of larger than life personas such as Keith Richards, Elvis Presley and Maria Callas that were reflected in paintings, drawings and costumes including operatic figures such as Tosca or Marie Laveau.  The exhibition will include paintings, drawing, mono prints, sketchbooks, diaries and devotional objects.

A potluck memorial celebration for Leslie will take place Sunday, November 15th from 3 - 6pm at Parkside Lounge, 317 E Houston St. All are invited to attend.
