Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This is to inform you that Peter Cramer & Jack Waters have been
"disinvited"
by the QMAD curatorial team for the exhibition "FRAMING AIDS".
Comments can be left here http://www.queensmuseum.org/learning/partnership-gallery
Here is the chronological summary of events leading to our removal.
October 8th, 2009
Cramer and Waters were verbally invited by Hector Canonge, Director,
QMAD to participate in the exhibition Framing AIDS to take place at
the Queens Museum in December 2009.
November 13th
Cramer and Waters met with Ada Cintron, the curator of Framing AIDS
2009 to discuss details.
November 16, 2009 7:59:49 PM EST
The curator emailed a confirmation to Cramer and Waters "...as
participant artists of this year exhibition." Further confirmation of
their participation appeared on the QMAD website shortly thereafter.
The email requested photographs and bio information including Images
of their installation. Two of the images taken by Cramer then
appeared on the Queens Museum website. The images were captioned
"Framing AIDS". Neither image credited the photographer, the artists,
or the name of the work to be exhibited.

Jack Waters emailed the curator that "...it is problematic not to be
appropriately credited."
Nov 14, 2009, at 5:30 PM
Hector Canonge, Director, QMAD emailed that "...the museum had to put
something online... " and that he would "...request that changes be
made on the museum website."
November 24, 2009 12:10:54 PM EST
Ten days later upon seeing the changes had not been addressed, Jack
Waters again emailed the QMAD director with corrections. The email
was cc'd to the exhibition curator, and a staff member of the Queens
Museum.
November 24, 2009 1:01:28 PM EST
Hector Canonge, Director, QMAD emailed that he would have the images
"...removed completely so there are no more issues with the credits
and information..." he added that he was "...very surprised that
[ Waters] took the liberty to contact the museum directly..." Canonge
added that his own "...mistake was to perhaps having kept the images
and not have had them removed completely."
November 25, 2009 3:17:29 PM EST
Peter Cramer and Jack Waters received an email from Ada Cintron
Curator of Framing AIDS 2009 stating that "...due to your
inappropriate attitude with me and/or QMAD as organization, I have to
terminate your participation in Framing AIDS 2009...Please advise when
you will be removing your materials..."
November 25th
The images were replaced on the Museum's calendar page with another
artist's work with full credit for the replacement images, however as
of November 26th in the QMA Community Partnership Gallery page (http://www.queensmuseum.org/learning/partnership-gallery
) still had Cramer and Waters' uncredited images representing FRAMING
AIDS 2009.
