The PROGRAM, titled "Looking East" examines western perspectives on
the power of the East in context to gender, sexuality, and queerness.

“LIVE WIRE/REMOTE”
Premiere 11:56
Six months after the attack on the World Trade Center and the
Pentagon, articles in the London Times, the New York Times, New
Yorker Magazine, and the London Times heralded the return of
"pedophilic" practices among the Afghani military elite.
This is a document of a multi media enquiry at Remote Lounge, a video
club on the Bowery equipped with video terminals for the purpose of
singles dating. The delivery is a “theatrical intervention” that
challenges notions of journalistic objectivity and authenticity.
The ‘reporters’ question the differences between these alleged
"perversions" and the ancient Greek practice of pederasty, a
tradition that informs social class relations between youth and
experience and the hierarchy of gender in Western culture.
“THE EDUCATION OF ABOU BEN ADHEM”
Premiere 16:24
Showing ways in which cultures clash by positioning the figure of an
impressionable imaginary nationalist at the stages of development
when he is torn between his love of classical homo-erotic poetry, and
the need to defend his heritage against the very western influences
that are his material resources for said defense. The title is taken
from a Victorian poem whose surface reading implies the advocating of
Christian conversion.
“OCCUPY MY ASS, NOT IRAQ”
2006 7:01
Directed by Jack Waters with Peter Cramer
Videography by Peter Cramer
With Dom Pirates and Ares Fortuna
Narrated by Veronica Powers
Premiered 2006 at the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival in
the compilation “Fucking Different New York” .
Gazing at militarism and aggressive impulse through the blurred lens
of gender association. An immigrant is lured into an induction as
the recruiter’s subconscious back story is revealed in voiceover.
"UNDETECTABLE IN BERLIN"
Actions from the Berlin.Temps residency April-May 2008
28:03
Theatrical premiere. Previously shown on Manhattan Neighborhood
Network Public Access TV
Culled from the actions of an artist residency in Berlin, we
developed character and narrative elements through improvisational
activities based on the themes concepts and structures for the opus
“Pestilence” that we initiated earlier in residency at the Emily
Harvey Foundation, Venice in November 2006 . The sub-theme of the
Berlin occupation was “Undetectable”: an infection whose presence
is assumed, but whose physical detection is untraceable by scientific
means.
Using the format of the ‘theatrical intervention’ from our
balcony overlooking the cafés in the gentrified section of
Prinzlauerberg on Szredski Strasse - the street of the Berlin.Temps
spac - we addressed the public with our themes, engaging willing, and
sometimes unwitting strangers by inviting them into our domaine.
Using the space as a multi platform for art making and dialogue, we
engaged with local cultural workers and social practitioners, many of
whom we met on this trip -- as well as with our Berlin-based friends
and colleagues from previous relationships. Among the groups we
connected and collaborated with were the organizing artists of the
Berlin.Temps project, the public gardeners of Rosa Rose, the squatter
community of Berlin, students from the UdK, and the neighbors and
patrons of the bars and cafes in the vicinity.
The apartment functioned as a home base that allowed us to showcase
our work, giving visitors a background into our past work, research,
and current objectives. There we hosted social activities; field
trips, food and drink, lounging, and video screenings in on-going
improvisational and structured creative activities transcending
presentational formats in their sensory and sensual intimacy.
