The Second Queer Comix Group Reading

Come to the outdoor Community Garden, Le Petit Versailles, (247 E2d Street, NYC) August 5th at 8 pm for the Second Queer Comix Group Reading, presenting a free Arts & Comics slideshow with creators Jean Segarra-Rosa, Ricardo Osmondo Francis, Ivan Monforte, hosted by Queer cartoonist Carlo Quispe.

Jean Segarra-Rosa earned her BFA in Illustration from Pratt Institute and has worked as a professional artist and art educator for over 20 years. Her talents include cartooning, illustration, mural making and Photoshop. Clients include Marvel Comics and DC comics, and has worked as an artist on various television shows such as SuperWhy!, Go Diego Go, Dora the Explorer, and Dora and Friends.

Ricardo Osmondo Francis was born September 8, 1976 in Houston, Texas. He attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, and received a BFA in 1998 in painting. Recent solo exhibits by the artist include “Mythic Poetic” (2016), “RE:VIEW” (2018), and "2020", which premiered at The Community Artists Collective Houston, and traveled to Newark and West Orange, NJ in January 2021. His most recent solo exhibit “The Black Iconic” premiered in February of this year at the Riverfront Art Gallery in Yonkers, NY. Francis lives in Washington Heights and his studio is in Newark, NJ at Project for Empty Space.

Iván Monforte (he/they) is a New York City-based artist who uses conceptual strategies to explore themes of race, class, gender, stigma, and the pursuit of love. They are the recipient of a UCLA Art Council Award, a Lambent Fellowship in the Arts from the Tides Foundation, and an Art Matters grant for research in Samoa and have participated in residencies at Sidestreet Projects, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Lower East Side Printshop, Center for Book Arts, and Smack Mellon.

Carlo "Uranus" Quispe is the creator of Uranus Comics, Carlito and the mini-comic Hairy Tales.  Hairy Tales was adapted into an animated short by Director Pablo Oliverio in 2018.  Look for Carlo and the Queer Comix Group at this year's Flame Con presenting the latest volume of Uranus Comics; Uranus Attacks!
